360° Video Camera

This is really cool - drag your mouse around the video to see a 360° view of the festival.

(If the video doesn't work from your RSS reader or Facebook read the post on ImAFish).

“By using a Google Streetview-like camera, a system with six lenses, not as a photo but as a video camera, an all-encompassing picture is captured.

From the point where the images were recorded, the viewer can look in any direction, let his eyes wander through the crowd, or stare at the ground or the air, which makes viewing a video an experience without boundaries.” More on the Yellow Bird website.

Hey Pete, yellowBird's demo

Hey Pete, yellowBird's demo does look promising, but there are several companies that have been doing this (with the same cameras and others) for much longer.  MATIvision uses four or more 360° video cameras (the same LadyBug 2 cameras yellowBird uses) in strategic locations at an event to put the viewer on stage with the band with the ability to move freely and look wherever you want.  There is a ton of footage with incredible audio available with an unprecedented level of interactivity at www.mativision.com.

360 Video is growing quickly as new experiential medium with new products and services coming to out all the time.  Organizations like MATIvision and maybe yellowBird are pioneering a new industry with extraordinary potential educate, entertain, and engage.  You can read more about developments in the medium at 360videoblog.blogspot.com or follow me on Twitter @video360.  Good to see your interest and watch for much more to come.

Thanks for the reply and the links, what I really liked about the yellowBird demo was the use - it was perfect for the festival as you could see the act as well as the atmosphere around it.

I hope 360 videos become a lot more common over the coming years.
