Backup
Submitted by Pete on Wed, 11/02/2005 - 10:19pm.I’ve been looking into various ways to backup my data for a couple of weeks now. Call me paranoid but I’m sure anyone else would be annoyed if their hard disk died and they lost all their documents and music.
I have to start my final year project in the next couple of weeks that I have to work on until the end of Easter. If my hard drive died in that time it could be catastrophic to my degree.
I have looked into various methods for backup but the best-suited one is just to backup to another hard drive. I looked at online storage but you either have to pay or you don’t get a lot of storage space. Even the ones you did get a lot of storage it would take you hours initially to upload everything.
DVD’s were another option but they don’t really hold enough data and I wanted something more automated than having to burn stuff to a DVD. Finally I have settled on a program that automatically synchronizes my data with an external hard drive every night.
Its still not ideal as if my iMac was to die I wouldn’t be able to do any work but at least I would not lose any data.
