I'm gonna sound like a dick, but the thing most people listen to mainstream rock / punk / dance / whatever.. and everything in the mainstream (minus a few acts) follow the same radio friendly formula. Cos if they're different, they wont get the air play, and they went do well

I listen to non-main stream stuff, same with Munger and Dean, so we're used to different music, so our views on music are more opened and varied than people who just listen to the radio

no offence jonnie but u dont hear half the stuff i listen to on the radio.

Radio 1 for instance is all about discovering new music - wether its Zane Lowe's show ("in new music we trust") to Bobby & Nihal or Westwood or Pete Tong or Steve Lemacq.

Besides you cant really say you have a more open view on music as aparrrently the stuff I listen to isn't even music.

The reason they follow the same radio friendly formula is because a lot of people like the music.

We are just lucky there is so much choice to suit everyones taste.

Music is an individual thing. I love da Blues, Rock Trance, Techno etc. It depends on my mood.

Too much of pop and chart stuff has always been too formulaeic (Stock Aitkin & Waterman for example).

Its a shame john peel is dead, radio was getting good. the music he was introducing late at nite was very close to grindcore. but now Zane Lowe has kinda taken his spot at nite with "in new music we trust." or how to destroy music in 2 hours! The music hes introducing is utter balls these new bands are shit the lyrics are good but the music is crap half the shit i hear sounds like they've stole a lead zeppelin or ac-dc riff.

i dont think my taste in music is all that open i love my metal and classical and i enjoy the odd song which "catchs the ear" thats about it i just tolerate the rest.

but i do listen to alot of music and i think trance is pretty weak atm if tiesto, 4 strings and paul van dyke are the best

I dont know what songs ya listen to, but I know a few, and the genre has a habit of being very formulatic, so I can assume its the same. I'm open, cos i'll listen to it, u know i like some trance, but most of it is crap. To me, music is telling a story via lyrics and instraments, and having "DUH DUH DUH *Oh I love you / until the sky is blue / baby you know its true* DUH" aint that. Sure its music in the broad sense, but aint *real* music

People who listen to emotionally charged punk rock like the early november, fall out boy, thursday, planes mistaken for stars, engine down

Deano will reel off a massive ass list now :P

Emo (post-hardcore - Screamo) is part of the punk genre . punk is all about politic's and disorder, Emo on the other hand is about emotions.

the main bands are Fugazi, Dashboard Confessional , get up kids , my chemical romance , funeral for a friend , Taking back sunday and the ones in mungs post

also cause emo is all about emotion so it basically gives them the rite to take any band in the world that sings about emotional topics and class them as emo.

its really annoying converge/isis are grindcore/death metal but now aparently there EMO GAY

THERE TAKING MY BANDS AWAY FROM ME

while im thinkin' abt it, Kerrang have sold out.. there was a time when they represented rock / metal / punk..

Now, you get Avril, Gwen, Eminem, D12 and cross over pop like that. Scuzz is going the same way.

MTV2 is turning into MTV, with more shows than music videos

Q plays good, mainstream alt. music.. such as Keane, Thrills, Chem Bros.. Them and MTV2 are probably the best mulit genre channels on Sky, the Amp is alright too
