I've had my offer accepted on a place, so I'm on the scrounge for any household items anyone might wanna get rid of? Mostly the big stuff like washing machine, freezer, sofa etc, so if you've got anything or know anyone who has let me know

Congrats Dave looks to have a nice size garden!! Seems to be the month for house buying.

Freecycle is a great place to get yourself some junk.

Yeah been told atleast 100 times about freecycle! I'm getting it for £80k which is a hell of a bargain for a place like that, first place I've seen in my price range that isn't a flat so well chuffed with it :)

To all those getting/with mortgages - Did you take any of the insurances ie. payment protection, critical/life cover with your mortgage? And if so, do you know roughly how much you pay a month for them?

Obviously A&L are trying to sell me every product they have, but neither me or my parents think I need any of the insurances as I get 6 months full pay from work in the event of illness/accident/redundancy anyway. Just wondered what you guys reckon?

Yeah will be getting buildings/contents seperately, don't think I need life but will double check that it's not a legal requirement

You shopped around mate? At our place it's cheaper if you get Buildings and Contents together and at the moment they're offering £50 cashback if you take it out.

I can get the girl to give you a call for a quote if you want?

We have life insurance as we have a joint mortgage - it costs about £8/month.

I think joint buildings/contents insurance for our house comes to about £220.

Protection insurance is a con and you shouldn't take this. Nationwide were very naughty when we took out our mortgage as they offered it to us for three months free (£60/month after) and said it would look more favorable on our mortgage application if we took it out. I cancelled after 3 months. I think the government are making the practice of selling PPI with a mortgage illegal.

The sky packages for that look good - I think you can get Sky TV, Sports, Phone Line and Net access for about £50/month.

The most annoying thing about getting internet access is that you need a phone line.

I assumed there would be a way of getting it without a phone line these days cos I obviously don't need a land line

Only if you get a wireless USB dongle thing but they're nowhere near as fast as regualr broadband.

If you take out that sky package Pete was on about then you dont pay any line rental as sky take over the line and it's included in the package, you do need an actual line though so if there is no line installed BT will want like £150 for flicking a switch to turn it on for you

I doubt I'll get Sky yet, it's just internet access I'll want and as cheap as possible

There might not be a reconnection charge if the line has not actually been removed from the local exchange.

I think I pay about £11/month for a phone line, then £20/month for net then another £20/month for Sky. I have quite a good broadband package tho.

I'm reckoning on having £35/month to cover any combination of phone line/internet/sky/setanta that I can get. As long as I can get internet access that's the main thing.

Im on O2 Broadband Premium which is 20MB/s with unlimited allowance and it's under £10 a month (think its like £9.65 or something) but thats cheaper coz my mobile is O2 and obviously there is £10 a month BT line rental on that.

I know the Sky £16.50 a month includes broadband base which is 2MB/s and a 2GB cap, depends on how much you're using it and how quick it needs to be.
Again with that you've got the BT line rental
