How to Create Your Own HDR Photos/Photomatix tutorial

There are plenty of explanations of what HDR is and how it works, so we won't cover that here. In this tutorial we'll go through the steps necessary to take your very own HDR photo and process it like a pro.

My Top Two Trance Podcasts

It's been a while since I blogged about music but with the Miami Winter Music Festival coming up it seemed like a good time to mention my two favourite trance podcasts. They come from no less than two of the biggest names in trance music and their weekly updates are well worth listening to:

Tiesto's Club Life

Armin Van Buuren A State of Trance Podcast

Both can be found within iTunes or from the sites above.

Useful Blog Stuff - MyBlogLog

There is endless junk that you can put on your blog from recent news feeds, Flickr photos, badges, adverts and various other widgets but the one I find most useful is MyBlogLog. If your not familiar with the widget its the one that sits on the bottom right of every page with the little images of recent visitors.

It's useful for three reasons:

  • It's interesting to see who has been visiting ImAFish from other blogs. I can easily view their blog through MyBlogLog to read what they have to say and post comments.
  • If you visit a blog more than once MyBlogLog will automatically add you to that blogs community page so that you can easily see updates.
  • The statistics behind MyBlogLog are also useful, they are not complex as Google Analytics but display the data in a much better way. I recently upgraded my account for $25 (£12) to unlock unlimited stats.

So if you have a blog I would recommend giving it ago. Anyone else use MyBlogLog?

I Can't Stop Tweaking My Blog

I'm an endless tweaker, I can't stop changing stuff here on ImAFish. Today I've played around with the mybloglog widget, yesterday I changed the welcome message on the site and at the weekend I added in my feedburner stats and a bigger RSS feed icon.

Most of the time I think my tweaks are for the best, sometimes they go wrong such as moving the forum but I'm willing to admit when I make a mistake. Tweaking I feel is important in order to try out different elements on my blog, to see which keywords work well, which widgets help bring in visitors or which adverts make the most money without being intrusive.

It could be that I don't visit other blogs enough to notice changes but do other bloggers have a fascination with changing elemtents on their blog as much as me?

The 25 Most Disturbing Sex Toys

Where once it was simple shoulder massager's and turkey basters that had to be adapted to nefarious purposes, nowadays anything you can think of (and probably a few dozen things you could never think of) are out there to give some lonely shut-in the pleasure they can't get from molesting a damp slice of bread or a pumpkin. Things like these ...

HDR Photos of Ironbridge

After reading about the 10 most beautiful bridges in the world at the weekend through Digg I went to take some photos of Ironbridge, #7 on the list which happens to be about 20mins drive from where I live.

The bridge itself.

The power station overlooks Ironbridge, giving an interesting contrast between old and new industry.

A view from the bridge looking up the river.

The bridge in the distance.

The bridge and the village which takes it name from the bridge.

On the drive up to Ironbridge I took this picture of the river Severn.

6 Things that Resemble the Death Star

It’s a simple shape, a sphere with a concave dish set in the surface. In 1977, the shape was forever linked to the film Star Wars and is known as the Death Star. In the film, it was a space station as large as a natural moon that housed the “ultimate weapon”, a planet-destroying laser.

My Best HDR Photos

Here are some of my best HDR photos from my travels. HDR is a technique of taking a photo over multiple exposures (or extracting them from a RAW file) then recombining them in a program such as Photomatix. By doing this you can bring out the detail from the multiple exposures creating a powerful image.

My first is of St Chads Church in Shrewsbury.

St Chads Church Shrewsbury

I really like how the HDR technique has brough out the detail in the stone work.

This next one was taken in Betws Y Coed last summer.

Betws Y Coed

I like the brightness in the trees in comparison to the building and water in this one.

This one is of the B&B we stayed at in Betws Y Coed.

B&B Betws Y Coed

Again I love how the stone work is really brought out against the trees.

I took this next one in Egypt last summer.

Egyptian Sea

The rich blue in the sea and sky really shines through in this picture.

This one was taken in the Cotswolds on my Birthday last year.

Cotswolds

The contrast in the sky especially with the sun setting is very striking in this picture.

This is another of St Chads Church in Shrewsbury.

St Chads Church

The way the cloud almost circles around the spire is especially apparent in this picture as it almost implies the power the building or church has over people.

Train track in Betws Y Coed

This train track near Betws Y Coed almost has a rain forest feel about it with the luscious green.

This next one again is from Betws Y Coed.

Bingo Port - Your First Port of Call for Online Bingo

Bingo Port is a Bingo information site dedicated to Bingo news, offers and reviews. The sites co-founders have over 15 years of experience in online gaming and it shows in the detail they have gone into for the site.

Each Bingo site has a review detailing any sign up offers, the types of games played (e.g. 75 ball or 90 ball), the software the site uses and useful details such as support contact details.

The bingo bonus page lists a large number of sites with the offers available for signing up and playing. Some sites offer free bingo for just signing up and depositing no money.

Unique to Bingo Port is their points system that lets you turn points into cash to be spent on online bingo or gift vouchers. Points can be earned in a range of ways including special offers, a recent one included writing a review of a bingo site for Bingo Port. The current news is full of mothers day offers for various Bingo sites. Unlike some Bingo portals the forum is active with a range of Bingo related topics.

Bingo Port is an excellent resource for people either trying Bingo for the first time or for shopping around for other Bingo sites, think of it as a money supermarket for Bingo.
