Shrewsbury Dragon Boat Race

Today I took part in the Shrewsbury Dragon Boat Race to help raise money for Shrewsbury Hospice. Our team made up of 17 people from our office (The Pump House), the majority representing Marches Energy Agency, I represented Information Solutions (and obviously world famous ImAFish).

The boat we had to race.

The team lining up the boat. We are all dressed as superheroes (under our life jackets).

Much love to Jonnie (also representing ImAFish) for coming in at last minute to fill the team. You can see my superhero mask on my head.

Everyone was nervous that we might fall in.

A discussion on climate change (I guess).

Much love to Laura for taking the photos.

Everyclick - The Search Engine That Helps Charities

Just came across www.everyclick.com its a search engine powered by ask that donates 50% of its advert income to your chosen charity. It's quite a clever idea considering the amount of money the likes of Google and Yahoo make from sponsored links on search results ($3.2 (£1.6) Billion last year).

In order to earn for a charity you need to sign up then search from the find charity's page, from here you simply select "Select this charity" then all the sponsered links you click on will generate revenue for that charity.

The website provides a range of tools including image search, news and products. I found the search results not to be as good as Google however if helping your charity is important then this may be the site for you!

Switchweb Helps Search and Rescue Charity

Shropshire based Switchweb web hosting has donated over £500 worth of website design and consultancy to ReSART (Recon Search & Rescue Team) in order to help grow their web presence.

ReSART previously relied on Microsoft Publisher for their website however soon found this to be too constricting for their requirements. It was at this point Switchweb offered to design a custom web site based on the content management system Drupal.

Now ReSART have the ability to edit and create content as they wish as well as accept donations through PayPal. Head of Operations, Wayne Stanley, was thrilled with their new web site and commented on how much more professional it made the group look online.

ReSART have specialist training for a range of disaster scenarios both on land and sea. As they move forward they are looking to use their website to promote themselves as a team and collect donations to fund their life saving activities.

To find out more about ReSART or how you can get involved visit their new website.

Switchweb offers low cost PHP/MySQL web hosting from £13/year.
